The Benoit family would like to thank everyone for coming to this special occasion and what a momentous occasion it is.
[IF YOU COULD PLEASE FIRST PAY TRIBUTE TO HIS CLOSEST FRIENDS IE MATTESONS, WHOMEVER YOU MAY KNOW THAT MIGHT BE CLOSE TO HIM, FIRSTLY]
I would like to acknowledge everyone in the room for coming out and supporting dad and the Canadian Airforce for actually letting dad pass the entrance tests.
We’d also like to thank the pesky Russians for being so noisy up here in the Canadian North and giving us all something to work for.
And I’m sure dad would like to thank mom for putting up with his agnatic nature and all the shuffling around the world that we had to endure. Geesh, you’d think we’d live on the moon by now. But I’m sure she’s glad dad didn’t get swept up in the California training sessions, haha.
[IF YOU COULD PLEASE ASK MATT MATTESON TO PLEASE READ THIS PART]
Dad, firstly I’d like to thank you for all the traveling we’ve had and all the friends we’ve made along the way. From my own experiences in moving with the family, I’ve made some long standing relationships that have brought me in some of the most exciting points in my life thus far: being a rockstar, sipping cocktails and eating oysters on the beach’s of Florida, boating on the coast of Nantucket, living in the wild west of Colorado and seeing the adventurous frontier that is Alaska.
Now your off to the Australian outback and the Himalayas of Afghanistan without us! Blasphemy! The least you could do is take some pictures for us and show boat a little! Besides that, our photo albums have been lacking the past few years, its your turn to add to the collection!
Remember, your only allowed back into Canada unless you bring back a nice sun tan, a dingo and a turban to remind us that even living in hot dry climates is not suited for all of us no matter what E-Entertainment thinks.
If you were to talk to most people about dad, I’d say he has an unprecedented work attitude, tough demeanor and a no-nonsense approach to life…….
[HOPING TO GET SOME LAUGHS HERE ]Ah…..It didn’t really change in the family life as well. I remember as an 8 year old, on a Saturday morning we had to remove every spec of dust from our bedrooms. Now this was in pollen/dust central Colorado but the work was done no matter how arduous it was. This may have been cruel and inhuman but it has something to say about my ability to clean dust…and boy am I good at it, haha. Seriously though, dad and I are polar opposites on what we consider “lives truth’s” but from these experiences, I have always been a diligent worker – how else would I have made it to a work placement with the UN!
I know how sad you all are to say good bye to dad but you know he’s still young and getting to that pension early means the WO’s have something to fight over.
I’m sure the base will be a much emptier place so now it’s up to all of you to take up the honour of his successors and live up to dads extraordinarily high standards.
Although you are saying good bye to dad, I’m sure this will not be last you see of him. He is only retiring after all and not dieing. I’m sure he’s agreed to have a drink with you all and I’m sure he’s offered to pay the next round to make sure you’ll all be there. And I know you all look forward to hearing about his deployment when he returns from his exotic work destinations.
On behalf of the Benoit family, we love you and we’ll be with you through the rest of life’s adventure.
Love,
Mom, Josh, Kellina, Alyssa, Grandmom, Granddad and Joel (whom had the pleasure of writing this all last night)
PS. Grandmom and Grand say: "Congratulations Greg on your career in the Military. We know you will miss it. We wish you all the best in your retirement and in your future endeavours. We wish we could be there with you tonight to celebrate. Again, congratulations on your retirement."
Mom had to say: That if she anything to say, she wouldn’t say it out loud. You’ll have to ask her when you get back home what that implies, haha.
Josh and the girls say: We look forward to you coming home and since you’re retiring early, they feel they should be compensated by getting all the gifts they requested for Christmas. If not, full tuition coverage once they get to Uni would be acceptable.
Good night all!
